Postby rex » Thu Jun 20, 2013 6:33 pm

I just got a mxr 10 band eq from the states and it came with an american power adapter.i have one of those things that fit over american plugs so it can plug into nz sockets but i'm still wondering if it's going to be safe to use?i don't want to fry my pedal.

Pretty sure theyre only 120v supplies, i got the same pedal a few years ago with US supply, ended up getting a voodoo labs pedal power since it had 9v, 12v and 18v outputs.

dont think it would fry the pedal, but wouldnt sound good, not enough juice

Never used one so I don't know how it'll go, just saying they exist. Might be handy if you're running a daisy chain but otherwise I'm pretty sure you have to run 2 separate power supplies if you want both 9v and 18v (ie. you can't use a Y-cable on two 9v connectors) or get one of those shits with isolated outputs liek Murray's got.

Nope they use 120v in England on all construction sites and I think a few other european countries do too

But yeah just use a standard pedal power supply. Some plug packs are rated for both 120v and 240v but if it only says 120v on it then biff it.

Maybe, but general household supply is all 220-240, and that's what is important to 99 % of people. A few smaller countries use less, but they're all because of stupid old USA.

yeah 120v sucks balls. Although it does draw half the current that the same device on 240v does.

need to find if the outputs are isolated, then i think you can use a Y cable to link 2 9v into it (dont take my word on it)

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=605257115
has 16v outputs apparently, may be close enough? or has a lot of 9v's so could do the Y cable trick. maybe have a look into it.

i got one of these
http://www.voodoolab.com/pedalpower_iso-5.htm
suits my needs perfectly, 18v for EQ if i use it, 12v for my wireless and enough 9's to daisy chain up my other shit. they pop up for around a hundred here and there

Don't use it. It's a wire wound transformer so doubling input will double output and 36volts may not be great for your pedal.

Drawing 1/2 the current isn't an advantage as power output is quartered....

Just grab an 18v supply from Dick Smith or Jaycar, should do the trick, in the long run if running several pedals those power supplies are great, makes set up real easy when running one of them and a pedal board. i just chuck in 2 jug cords, a speaker cable and 2 cables and im ready to go.
