Pickups 3

Postby Agnes » Fri Feb 01, 2013 3:00 pm

Hi gays, I'm looking for some new high output pickups for my jackson jrr-94 concept. Last time I changed my pups around I chucked a SD Invader in the bridge.
Anything similar anyone would recommend trying or anyone got anything lying around that they can flick me for cheap?
(only really use the bridge pickup though so if you've only got the neck one, thanks but na bol)

invader is the top of the sd range in terms of gain and then there's the x2n from dimarzio which is their gainiest.the d-sonic and d-activator are close though,Dunno if you'll really notice a huge diff between them though.I find it easier to run different flavours of boost these days rather than fuckin about with pickup swaps.

Worth every cent.

(Dimarzio D'activators are also rad if you can't be stuffed with the whole logistical/$$$ side of things)

D-activator x are rad. Ive got two guitars with them and they sound great.
Seymour duncan sh-6 looks to be a good high gain choice too. Im getting a set for a impending guitar and a medium gain SH-5 soon. Sh5 is medium gain, looking forward to checking out how they soundwith high gain application

Yeah, get them direct. Order form asks you what guitar you'll be installing them for, I got a couple details wrong (pole length and spacing) and recieved an email the next day asking if I'd double check to make sure. They actually give a fuck and make sure you have what you need. Dece.

i got my warpigs in the portal ironbird from mr glynn up there in Ak and had similar excellent customer service from both. They really do seem to be a better pickup in a more dense wood(maple etc) the one in my moser sound amazing compared to the ironbird which is more than likely mahogany.

dont know where i read it but i cant believe you just trying passives now.

something i red about all this been talking about gear or buying gear or talking quialty sound and you want to try passives.

hahah yeah, I stuck to actives for so long cause I was fiddling with my amp setup for ages. Always needed a constant with my amp knob twiddling.

Plus really, you can stick an EMG in anything and it'll sound like a piece of wood and an EMG, haha. Now that really isn't ideal if you were 'tone searching' but at the time, we were going to aus so much and I was playing so many different amps, that having all my guitars have the same sound was really ideal. Meant that I didn't have to think/worry about it.

Settled on my amp/setup for now and now I'm enjoying trying out new pickups. I've got a two sets of Seymour Duncan SH-6s and a Seymour Duncan SH-5 on the way now too. Looking forward to comparing them to the D-activators.

Picking up a whole bunch of gear in america next month. Hopefully coming back with a Mockingbird Pro X Gold Top, custom Tele with SH-6 and Hot Rails tele neck pickup, Sennheiser EW 300 IEM system and a new Randall Thrasher preamp/D.I pedal. Really looking forward to getting the gold mockingbird, just trying to figure out what pickups to put in it. Thinking an SH-5 in the bridge and SH-1 59' in the neck.

why didnt you have 2 guitars one with actives and one with passives if you were so concerned about tone?

i mean, you wernt in aussie THAT much. every amp woulda been a 5150 anyway :baton:

i dont belive you

now go and answer questions on SG in your ESP thread :baton:

Worked out that I had 13 Auzzie passport stamps in 3 years, so we were playing at least every 2 or 3 month at one point.

I always had at least two guitars, one as a backup.

C'mon man, I went from a modified 1987 JCM800 2203 50w amp to a Line 6 purple toaster; clearly I was/am not concerned about tone THAT much, haha.

And suprisingly, no! I found heaps of auzzie dudes in that scene all used different heads. Used all sorts, hughes & kettner, Framus, Mesa, Randall, Orange. Very rarely saw a 5150, was really odd.
