Reccommended specs? - Cubase and Ezdrummer

Postby Obzen » Fri Oct 07, 2011 9:58 am

I need to buy a laptop that will run Cubase + Ezdrummer.
Edit: I'm not looking at laptops now, I will build a desktop

I'll be recording upto 8 tracks at once for drums.

I don't want to spend much money, I'm looking on trademe for a good deal laptop, but I want to know what kind of RAM and CPU speed and/or soundcard specs I should be looking out for at a minimum to run this software without struggling too much.

I want to:
Record drums: And then mix them down to a single track before recording guitar/bass/vocal tracks on to it (so as to not demand too much of the system).
Programming drums: On top of mixed-down guitar/vox tracks.

Hate to say it but get a Mac and a FireWire interface. There's a reason why the majority of the audio industry uses them. Coz it just works and keeps working.

I don't have one yet, I also need to buy one.

Because I'm trying not to spend to much, I have a USB interface in mind rather than firewire.

One I've been looking at: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Behringer-XENYX ... 5646633943

But I haven't done much research into interfaces yet, just clicking on things that have enough channels and are cheap.

I've changed my mind about it having to be a laptop, I don't like my chances of finding something within the desired budget. I think I want to try and cheaply put together a desktop from bits n peices. And PC, not MAC, just coz it's easier to throw together PC's on the cheap.

I just want an idea of specs to comfortably run this shiz.

I'll try and throw the bits together as cheap as I can, I'm not fixed on a certain budget, but that's kinda around what I was hoping (dreamin) for.

Some of those mixers with USB only seem to record 2 channels (just a stereo track of the mixer output), so if your wanting 8 tracks gotta get the mix right on the mixer first and cant change much after.

What James said ^

Ps dont buy the B word. That shit has the worst quality control and just breaks. Some arguments are that because its so cheap you can just buy another when the old dies. If you wanna fill the landfill up with more of that junk then I guess go for it.

I would save a bit more and get a decent 8 ch interface. $400 aint gonna get you much.
