Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0

Postby Spots2012 » Thu Jan 21, 2010 6:44 pm

http://www.genzbenz.com/?fa=detail&mid= ... 610&cid=95

I've been looking at this mini head, going for $1099... pretty pleased with the sound of it, had a couple of mates whose opinions I respect have a fiddle round at the rock shop and we all agree it's pretty awesome for the price. It has some really good online reviews. The size is a bonus for me... I'm happy enough with the size of my penis so I don't feel I need a huge bass rig to compensate. But I'd still like to hear the punkas opinion.

I think it's 375w at 8 ohms which is what the cab I'll be using is (SWR 4x10)... is this gonna be loud enough to use at hardcore shows? Both Mean Streak guitarists are using pretty monster Marshall 400w tube heads... There's been good amps available to use at all the shows I've played, so it's not a deal breaker if I can't use this live all the time, it would just be nice to have the option, and best case scenario, a consistent amp sound for all shows.

And is genz benz a good brand? No-one I talk to seems to have heard much about them, but online reviews give me the impression that they're a good quality brand and that the owner/designer is a good dude, still very much involved in all aspects of the business from design right through to customer service.

Like I said, I'm really pleased with the tone. I cranked it right up at the rockshop and it didn't have any trouble maintaining a good sound... just hard to tell if it's gonna get completely drowned out in a live setting

Do you reckon you could go back to the Hamtown Dave account?
If you like the tone go for it.

Yeah if you like it go for it, they are pretty popular on forums like Talkbass, but the current trend on there is small lightweight stuff so who knows if you can trust peoples opinions. Just do some research to make sure they are reliable.

I have never tried one so won't comment on it, but I have never played a modern solid state amp that I've liked. Get an old GK 800RB, a bit heavier but proven reliability and the loudest 300 watt solid state amp I've ever heard, plus they are still "warm" sounding but fast and responsive being solid state.

No they aren't.

To be honest you'd know better than me... point is they use 'serious' guitar amps, I wanted to know if a lightweight bass head like the shuttle will be adequate.

FUCK MAN, i'd end it all if I were you.. I mean, I was just being a smartass but eric FUCKING SASSED YOU SO HARD OUT.

ps. I reckon go for something bigger if you're worried about competing with two guitar amps like that. You'll grow pretty fuckin tired of being drowned out. totally back the GK800RB suggestion, those amps are surprisingly good, considering how rubbish heaps of other GK models are...

If small and light weight is a selling point id check out whatever is the equivalent in the markbass range. They are quite fucking mean amps imho.

i've a GK700RB which i've used over the last 5 years - reliable, nice mids and lows, and drives a 4ohm 4x10 nicely over drums and two guitars. i've started using the jansen 50 but have reliability issues and it's back to the shop this weekend - still can't complain for a $350 head built in '71.

I had the opposite experience. Used to have a 700RB, it was the most unreliable amp I have ever owned and sounded really bland to me. Used mine with a decent 4 ohm 4x10 so was getting the full 380 watts but never really had enough headroom.

The last time it blew up I started using my Jansen Bassman 50 (that I had recently bought for guitar), it was just as loud and sounded sooooo much better. My 700RB was a MK1 which are commonly considered really unreliable. The NZ distro replaced the entire innards with MK2 parts for free and two years out of warranty. Very nice of them, but I sold that piece of crap straight away.

When I got an 800RB a few years later I was surprised that it was way louder than the 700RB (even though it was less power) and didn't sound cold and sterile. Only sold it cause I wasn't in a band for ages and didn't need three bass heads.

i have a mk2. has been punished regularly and never had a problem (touch wood).

the bassman problem, purchased it after an overhaul done by old whatshisface at jansen. after an hour or so of use it starts crackling randomly. supposed to take it back to jansen to fix. must do so.

I got the shuttle. It's sweet... definitely enough for a live show... even though it was D.I'd it was cranking pretty loud through the cab. Still fiddling with tones and shit but no-one complained about the bass sound so it can't have been horrible.

I don't post on here enough to care.

When I start back at uni and post on here all day like usual, I will change it back. OK?
