But in all seriousness
If you've got like 5 k sitting around and you want that tone..
The ampeg + sansamp is the way to do it.
thats what I use and its sweet.
(zane... my ampeg is not solid state)

I think the Sansamp Bass Driver is the bass equivalent of a Valvestate.

Each to their own, but it just scoops your mids, gives you an overhyped low end, and gets very "clangy" in the top end. It takes away nearly all of the character of the bass and amp you use it with.

Tech21 released the VT Bass a year or two ago and that pedal is actually quite cool. It gives you some "Ampeg grind" but still sounds natural. It's pretty much the Bass Driver done right, and if you actually like the Bass Driver it's worth checking out.

What about the RBI? Has mid control whereas BDDI does not. Never tried either but wanna check out an RBI at some point.

I tried one a few years ago. Remember thinking it was cool it had a mid knob but it didn't change the right frequencies, so it still sounded scooped with the mids cranked. Plus they cost heeeeaps. If you want one with mids get a VT.
