Igor Cavalera (and Lars Ulrich ) is responsible for me picking up drums in the first place, for real.

If you can't play along to Betty in it's entirety then you're a shit drummer and should stop wasting everybody's time. :P

I've always loved the drum-intro-groove to "I Know." 8)

Although i know a few drummers who are pretty supreme and have mastered this shit within years (often with HOURS AND HOURS of pretty intense practice), i've been playing drums for 15 years and am only just starting to get the hang of blast beats. Doing sweet hip hop grooves is pretty difficult also. Although you might be one of those people with natural skill, you probably aren't and might wanna set your sights lower in the meantime.

Just sayin'.
I'm not a cool guy anymore.

I have tried some shit slower aye Dan I can get that pretty sussed easily, going fast or double kick seemed hard, but then again I have not a drummer per say.

Cant get a kit till middle of the year when I probally move, kinda sucks but yea looking forward to it :)

this exchange was beautiful.

dave grohl is actually a fuckin amazing drummer. it's not completely crazy to partially attribute the success of 'smells like teen spirit' to his drum performance.... that song would suck a cock without that drumming on it...

Straight up - get an average kit, and some average cymbals, and a practice pad.
Get a print out off the net, of all the rudiments. learn those on the practice pad.
The key is to play them slow, and work on good stick work.. Even strokes in sound, height and timing.
If you got some more money invest in a metronome off trademe - and slowly build up speed, but focus on endurance.

On your average kit, practice to some Beatles songs - this will help get you rhythm and timing down.

Plenty of drummers doing fancy shit, and double-kick but few can even play a good sounding money-beat.

Youtube videos.

Practice.
Discipline.

I would claim that, thats a classic!!!

But yea, no dice on a kit till atleast move into a new place and not in a apartment either.

Need a Garage for it!! Been looking up some pretty basic kits, like about $800 for what I want.

good thread. oi other drummers, who are your favourite drummers/influences?

my favourite guy would be whoever recorded the drums on Ringworms justice replaced by revenge cd. just trying to play along to that cd helped so much. i think it helps that its mixed so you can hear everything so clear you can get a good grip on what he is playing and when accenting and shit

Biggest influences on me when I started out were So-Cal pop punk (or whatever you want to call it) drummers.

Byron from Pennywise
Eric from NOFX
Jordan from Strung Out
Derrick from Lagwagon
Gordy from Frenzal Rhomb (and Mindsnare)

Rock dudes:
Dave Grohl
Jimmy Chamberlain
Matt Cameron
John Bonham

Hardcore dudes:
Mackie Jayson (Cro-mags)
Will Sheppler (Madball / Agnostic Front)
Armand Majidi (SOIA)
Chris Dora (Integrity / Ringworm)

Metal dudes:
Lars Ulrich (Sure the guys a douche, but he's the reason I play drums)
Dave Lombardo
Igor Calavera
