NZ Prepay plans - HU BTR?

Postby PertHJ » Thu Nov 24, 2016 1:33 am

Need to chuck a new SIM up into my phone when I get home - max data min cost, text/calls meh

So far Vodafones $19 for 750MB roll over (150min/unlimited texts) is looking the best, but

I was doing $29 with Spark for 1GB no rollover. Best thing is free Spotify which i think is $12.99 a month otherwise.

I just went to a $60 monthly plan though for 4GB data, free Spotify and Lightbox. I'm on the train 1.5 hours a day so data is crucial.

Yeah not too sure how much data I need - I currently pay around 2euro for 500mb per week, but I don't think I'm using that much...but 750mb/month is probably cutting it a bit fine, so maybe 1.5gig for $26/month

not too interested in Spotify so am kind of meh on Spark

i use vodafone, freebeedata. every time you top up with $20 you get a months unlimited txts to anyone, and 250MB free. every friday they offer deals which often have free 500 minutes to any NZ phone, 2GB for $5 and the like for a week but you never know what the deals are. i never spend over the $20 a month and make ridiculous unnecessary calls whenever i want and do those txt to donate $3 to a charity things often to use up credit that accumulates as I chuck $20 on a month.

Awesome cheers dudes

now, home Internet - who's the best provider? Looking at either unlimited or maybe 100gb, so far Orcon is looking the best with free instalation/modem at $80-$90 per month

i dont think anyone knows what the best deal is with internet, cos it keeps changing, but people dont tend to change providers often, but one thing i do know is that a lot of people are getting screwed by shitty routers as part of the deal.

Yeah, the router I got from Slingshot started playing up after 2 years. Way better off just getting a Linksys. Or maybe a Netgear - seen one that was still working after 10 years. Apart from that, Slingshot has been good to me. I'm on a slightly cheaper legacy plan, but similar to the $70/month for 100GB one. I struggle to use that much data and the rollover data only expires after 12 months so I have heaps to spare.

Home. Got phone with Vodafone. Same thing akaxo mentioned, but I don't come close to using $20/month so I'm not constantly scoring the free data.

wat?

Akaxo was talking about rollover data on his phone, not home internet?

If you can get rollover data on home internet that would be great...don't see it on any plans advertised online though...?

Akaxo was talking about getting 250MB free phone data every time you top up with $20. That data expires after a month, no rolls m9.

Slingshot limited plans all have rollover data, doesn't expire for a 1 year: https://www.slingshot.co.nz/data/rollover

im still confused, why would you want rollover data on unlimited?

my mate recently changed providers and they gave him a new router, taking the old one, which was fine until he realised it has way less range and drops out heaps

Cheers for the info J!

We're not getting fibre until 2019 according to that site, so guess we'll be on VDSL. From memory we were using less than 100gig per month when living there a couple of years ago, so would probably rather save the $10+/month than go to unlimited - especially if the plan has rollover data.

I don't really think we need 32tb of storage...but what would that go for? Selling drives separately?

haha, if i know J he would rather sell the whole thing for half price than pull it apart and mail each one separately.

but i would be keen on a single 2tb at a punkas price :D
maybe even a couple.

2degrees $19 carryover is awesome. I've been on it a while now so I get mobile rewards - every month they give me an additional 500mb of data just for continuing to top up so I get 1gb per month total. Now I've got 5gb of data accrued and I use youtube and netflix on my phone quite a bit, especially on road trips, and it never seems to run out. I've also managed to accrue 12.8 hours of call time.

They just released a new app called Data Hunt where you collect data while walking around your vicinity. It sucks when there's only a few markers in your area (like 4 markers in the entire Hutt Valley) but if you're lucky enough to be somewhere like Wellington CBD or Auckland CBD where there are heaps, you can walk around for an hour and collect a few gig of mobile data easily.
