E3 - 2014

Postby snuff » Tue Jun 10, 2014 10:38 pm

Pretty awesome times for gamers coming up.

What I'm pumped for...

Halo: Master Chief Collection looks like an awesome throwback to the H2 lan party days.

Uncharted 4: Stoked all the milarky with people leaving Naughty Dog hasn't stopped them working on it.

Pretty amazing you can join a friends game of FC4 without having to own it.

AC- Unity: Co-op looks fucking great in this.

Abzû - Have loved everything Thatgamecompany has done, so really interested in what Giant Squid can pull off.

Some great trailers, but no indication yet that triple A games are going to get less shit yet.

That's ok though because

Like what? All the AAA titles I've bought recently have been great; inFamous: Second Son, Watch Dogs, AC: Black Flag...

Yeeeaaahhh checkpoint following action! Enjoy non-consequential mechanics, unchallenging gameplay and easy to follow vapid storylines for hours and hours in an open world aimed at the lowest common denominator!

Basically, I doubt we like the same games.
Trailers, still great though.
edit: I also like to laugh at the audience applauding really dumb or 'nothing' statements, it's a good time. If it was a drinking game you'd get wasted fucking quick.

Fair enough if that's not what you're into.

Binding of Isaac looks like something I would play whilst taking a shit, on my phone.

Have you played any of those games I listed?

Nah, I spend too much time riding around on a really high horse telling people games they enjoy suck to actually play anything.

Last AAA games I gave a shot were Batman, Saints Row 3, Far Cry 3, but mainly watched my flatmate play AC, inFamous etc. I do play a bit of Skyrim, which exemplifies all of my complaints, but I do like exploring... First AC was fun for that until the shallowness became apparent.
Bet you ten bucks you don't make it past the first level in BoI first try ;)

interesting read on the different publishers conferences so far.
E3 is always disappointing for PC gamers anyway, and they seem to be hyping games further and further from release day now too,

I tend to buy indie titles because they're cheaper, focus less on Micheal Bay explosions and more on gameplay, and I hate giving EA/Ubisoft etc. my monies. All modern shooters look and play the same to me too, the last FPS I enjoyed was Bioshock Infinity and even then I haven't been back for a second playthrough

Agree with you on the shooter tip, new Rainbow Six and Farcry look like they'll be fun though.

Rockstar bug me the most of the big guys, GTA4 and 5 didn't last more than probably 10hrs before I'd had enough.

Watch Dogs is an interesting case in point. Most hype surrounding it coming out of E3 last year, hit by a rls delay. Still manages to sell 4million copies in it's first week.

Games of that kind of scope have no way of being dev'd by anyone other than the big guys. And yeah the Michael Bay comparison is very accurate, but fuck I enjoy mainstream big budget films just as much as lowkey indie ones.

I'll play anything.

EA and Ubisoft are cunts, but they do make some really good games, which makes it pretty much impossible to boycott them.
The only reason I'd pirate their stuff is because of annoying/shonky DRM/servers, because fuck dealing with origin/uplay, or double-drm.

Been playing the BF:Hardline beta today, garbage. Also the Destiny alpha, amazing... Really good can't wait for this... Peter Dinklage's voice acting is pretty uninspired though totally phoned in.

my post seemed pretty hipster/demos, but upon reflection, the last good storyline I played was Mass Effect trilogy which was an AAA title, and before that being Fallout 3 which was 2008 and also a high profile release

Rayman Legends had too steep a difficulty curve. I'm a born and bred platformer but fuck that noise was too difficult too fast. I haven't played the new Tomb Raider but it's definitely on my list

Haha. My missus 7 year old is 1 achievement away from 1000/1000 in Rayman legends. Just a grind one, the awesomeness one. He's a beast though I don't think I could do some of the invasion ones.

To the Moon blew me away (tm), The Walking Dead was great. Looking forward to playing the Fables one.
I feel like AAA games usually really lose their shit when it comes to storyline. But I'm sure I'm being unfair and forgot heaps... I do think that teams getting bigger has NOT helped in that department.
