PS3 can't read MKV files so you need to use PS3 Media Server to convert and stream them.

I've never had any luck with MKV files over PS3 media server
I have to do something similar to what Dick said but I chuck a copy of the movie onto our laptop and HDMI that shit straight to the TV.

Its fine normally, the problem this time is that the audio was ripped from a different source (I believe). The video seems to be playing at 25fps while the audio sits at around 23~. So eventually there is quite a bad sync issue.

I've tried a bunch of custom exceptions in mencoder and various fiddling with options but I can't get it to work. Only other option is to download a new program to separate the sources then combine them again at a sync'd rate.

Or download another copy that has been done properly :(

I'll check what I'm using at home, but I can access the settings via the PS3, and disable 'correct a/v mismatch' or something like that.

by doing that, and using one of the secondary encoding options when playing a video back, I tend to have pretty good results. Had this problem with every season of The Wire.
