Can't think of anymore at this point, but those 3 games are MP intensive and whenever I heard the sound of each gun I was like : FUCK.

Perfect Dark: Double Phoenix (explosive rounds)
Wolfenstein 3D: Chaingun
Doom: BFG9000
Duke Nukem 3D: Ripper

Can't think of any more that particularly stood out for me

BFG was so sweet mostly because it had "fucking" in the title which was a fucking bad ass word at that time (for me anyway)

One of my all time favourites is still the rocket launcher in Quake3. Mean rocket jumps and shooting cunts in the face with it. Also the crossbow in HalfLife 2 for nailing zombies to walls.

All best FPS weapon for me is still the Quake3 shotgun. So versatile. I was pretty much unstoppable with that thing. Range was ok, power was wicked and two chambers made for real quick and crazy games.

Honourable mention goes to the Ripper from Gears of War. Disemboweling cunts is always fun.

I used to help a tetraplegic play counterstrike online in 2001, he had a headset that moved the mouse cursor when he moved his head. to click/fire there was a tube he blew into. I was allowed to strafe, move back and forward and throw grenades. Most of the time he'd just get me to jam a peg on the up arrow, he got the nickname fish cos he never stopped moving.

I'm surprised how many of the mentioned games I've played considering I've never thought of myself as a gamer... even if a lot of them were just shareware versions.

I have to say though, my all time favorite first person shooter was Redneck Rampage.

/\ Yup! First game with an explosive crossbow (dynamite taped to a bolt)

Fantastic soundtrack too.

Duke3D - Shrinkray
Doom/Quake - RPG
Unreal - Flak Cannon (This is my fav weapon of all time)

Also Kingpin and the OG Red Faction were great fun.

Wolf 3D was the first FPS I played; I can recall we installed that and Commander Keen on the PC's at work, was a great game. My best FPS of all time, though, was Tribes.

Good thing was as it evolved graphically throughout the franchise, they didn't fuck with the mechanics all that much as well.

UT was what i used that cannon in the most, fuckin great gun, great game really, all the weapons so creative, a great concept that each weapon had two ways to fire, flak cannon being perfect for closed in environments, would be cool as to set up a lan to hoon that game some time, havnt played it in years, had a couple of goes about 4 years ago, kept hitting the wrong button with the flak cannon and lobbing the explosive wad into people at close range and blowing myself up..

when i get my desk computer back im gunna have to install that, and of course urban terror, i miss that game, i was getting really good at that shit.

The first UT ruled my life for a while. The low gravity map with the 3 towers (forget the name), team deathmatch on that was insane.
Also at one stage had a mod that gave more than 2 firing modes, right click to cycle through them. could set rockets as trip mines, use plasma gun to create a firewall etc.
and the redeemer, made the bfg9000 look like a water pistol. M-m-m-m-monster kill.

has anyone here, other than aaron, played urban terror?
its a free online fps, its a wee bit filled with fuckwits, but its a pretty good game, lot more fun than most of the popular games ive found, much better battle areas, not so much focus on realism(wtf that never works, it makes the game that much more frustrating) its based on the quake 3 engine, and a lot of the gameplay reminds me of Quake online in the good old days, altho its still not THAT awsome.

Disagree.

A game can be shit and have great weaponry just the same as a game can be amazing and have some decidedly average weapons.

Case in point;

Great game, rats gun.

Wow, there were clearly more Unreal games than I thought. I must have missed a couple. I was always on the Quake side of the fence though. The Quake 3 lightning gun was pretty shit, it was more of a static tickle gun compared to the original quake.

Painkiller wasn't that bad! I thought the stake gun was pretty fun to use.
Hopefully Bulletstorm isnt shit.

I think the weapons need to span past cool SP gibbing stz. Needs to have a competitve MP enviroment it frequents as well. The real sign of class for ingame weapons, are ones that span outside of SP, where people start doing innovative stuff with em.
