Surprised we haven't had one of these types of threads in here before.

Yay toys!

Image

Cheap bedroom TV

Image

Got this like a week before the above purchase, thought it would be unnecessary due to the TV having an inbuilt media player, but it solves the issues I'm having with vob files giving me shit, so I'll keep it to play those.

Image

Dedicated media drive for the TV.

Image

New media drive for the PC.

Image

Got this cheap as about a month or so ago, just to see if I could get decent signal in this seemingly hideous digital reception wasteland. Bit useless now, so off to the spare room TV it goes. Might get around to using it to record the odd show, though the files eat up a lot of space it seems.

Looking at a new monitor for myself. Rate Samsungs and looking at a 23" or similar size but too lazy to look into it myself. Thoughts and feelings on your purchase and other monitor related ideas appreciated.

I grabbed a Samsung 22" last year for like $200, probably not as cheap in NZ though, what with the Sth Pacific Peso and all.

2233SW model. Can't believe how insane the price difference is for larger sizes. May as well buy a TV. The one I scored above for $550 is 32" and has VGA and a PC mode.

Not too much hardware here either. Latest is probably:
2x

Then just small stuff like a laptop stand (Logitech N110) and a new mousepad (Razer Goliathus).

Now I'm looking for something like this monitor stand: http://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/Alls ... d/3882093/ so I can fit some of my stuff under my monitors. But since I need two I'm trying to find something cheaper, any ideas?

hey HIV, how is that WD TV media player performing? im currently in the market for one of them guys and id like a direct review if you feel obliging?
ive been looking at the cheaper ones, but im well aware of how frustrating the OS can be on the ones that are only a score or so dollars easier.

It's mean. Cheapest version (WD Mini), so no fancy networked 1080p HD carry on and what have you, mind.

It does exactly what it says on the tin. Simple plug and play set up - USB in the hard drive, RCA into TV, the interface is basic but clean, and it plays DVD rips and avi files fine. Totally recommend getting one.

If I was going to gripe about anything, it could have a thumbnail preview window, but give a fuck, really.

In contrast, the missus' bro has some pathetically expensive media centre set up that he spent ages on with an 8tb server of bluray rips that is meant to stream via some top of the line fast network to the 50" in the lounge as well as the HD projector in his dedicated cinema room - and it stutters, crashes, and generally fucks out all the time. After listening to him harp on about it, he sheepishly asked to see mine the other day and was all "oh, it just... works. Damn."

Just get one of these

Had mine for a while now. No problems, easy to use, plays pretty much everything and doesn't take up much space in the unit either.

is that the new caviar green with 64mb cache andrew?

dont mean to dig on you, but i've read their performance is worse than most 32mb cache drives. mind you, if its mainly for storage, then it should be perfectly fine.

just picked up a Samsung G3 1.5TB external for $125.

if repairing my piece of crap 85 corolla counts as tech, then i also bought a battery and new brakes pad. good bye paycheck.

he might have made it his main drive with his os, games etc on it, how do i know? what if his main drive failed and he just replaced it with this one? you cant assume that its definitely for storage just coz its big.
