Street Fighter X Tekken

Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono had his "Street Fighter IV and Beyond" panel interrupted by Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada today, with the rival fighting game makers joining together to announce two Street Fighter versus Tekken collaborations.

Street Fighter X Tekken was introduced with a teaser trailer featuring Street Fighter's Ryu facing down Tekken's Jin in a pre-rendered sneak peek presented in Street Fighter IV's sketchy, inky visual style. The game, pronounced "Street Fighter cross Tekken" will be coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Following the announcement, Ono surprised the crowd by holding up a Blu-ray disc with a copy of the game, then provided attendees with a live, playable demo.

Street Fighter X Tekken appears to feature Street Fighter IV's gameplay mechanics, locked onto a 2D plane, with both Tekken and Street Fighter characters performing EX-style super moves. The match started off with Ryu versus Jin Kazama, but Ono and Harada tagged in two more characters, Street Fighter's Chun-li and Tekken's Nina Williams. Ryu deployed his trademark fireball Ultra move, with Jin later following that up with his spinning electrified uppercut.

Harada followed that playable match with an announcement of his own, confirming that Tekken X Street Fighter is also in development at Namco. That game is rumored to play in the style of Tekken, with contestants fighting in a 3D arena.

Ono said the games won't be out "for a while" and that fighting game fans should enjoy Marvel vs. Capcom 3 while they wait.

MvC3 is due next June (2011) and Capcom have said that will have a decent run before they release this so you're looking at late 2011 early 2012.

Who knows when the Namco version will be done, I don't care ;)

The return of the donkey kick is the only thing I like so far about it.
Whoever decided to combine these games needs a punch in the cock.
Perhaps I'll have coco pops with AIDS for breakfast tomorrow while I'm at it.

the popularity of fighting games was falling at that point anyway
by recent popularity, im referring to the current generation of street fighter, marvel vs capcom 2 on xbox live, street fighter iii getting a new console release, the new mortal kombat game due 2011, marvel vs capcom 3
and so on. cycles and shit man, by 2014/15 it will all be over again. save for the diehards who continue to play street fighter. like geneterror

Looks shit, even worse than I was expecting. Skullgirls (www.skullgirls.com) will be better than this, I'll stick with MvC3 and BB:CS until 3S:Online comes out.

Also cracked up when I was reading the command list and saw easy inputs, I was like wtf they weren't easy enough? Then I saw super easy inputs and vomited.

I think you need gems to use that shit though.

haha yeah I think they dumbed down combo execution for a certain half of the target audience ;) cool that it'll appeal to more people, some really cool combos in this, Ryu/Akuma is a mean team!

Easy inputs require meter though, let people spend it, Im actually pretty hyped about the Gems tbh, I think it'll add another dimension to it. Dont want it to be even MORE of an AE clone :/

With the amount of dial-a-combos you may as well learn to play UMvC3 :P , it's just better haha or learn to play a good fighting game like KOFXIII. I'm finding this game so average to the point that I can't even find 2 chars I enjoy playing at the moment and it's pretty much unplayable online, well it's laggier than SF4 for me and the skipping/missing audio is infuriating to the point of distraction. Might give it another crack after a patch...

Game looks like shit, plays like shit online, is even more dumbed down than any other current gen fighting game (auto dial combos wtf), lacks depth (auto tech gem?? no air resets?? blargh), most of the cast are shit and there's so much DLC to come that the disc price is just the tip of the iceberg/logistical nightmare.

Too many reasons to hate on it right now. Sticking to AE for the time being.

Might consider it once I get to hoon Dutley on that juggle engine though.
