OS9 is doing good shit putting on AA shows in a REASONABLE manner
Wellington has needed an inexpenive AA venue and this place could/will be awesome. So turn out and see what the place is like -
also runs Wellington Musician's Club on Tuesdays and is available as a practice space for some price per hr.

I went the other night to a show and quite dug the venue. the lighting rig seems a tad excessive.

reminded me a little bit of valve in some ways... but with a better layout.
still, be cooler if you could drink there...

but then it would cost $1000 for a double license for the night, or just not be all ages.

fuck the kids
but seriously... it seems like a good venue... but how many all ages venues does a city really need? Zeal seems to have it pretty well covered..

OS9 seems wasted on all ages. it'd be a sweet 18+ venue I reckon.
damn sight better than MVP anyway

mm poss. zeal is not enough tho, cos zeal is less of a venue and more of myspace RL meetin place. and there aremany bands that wont play there and many people who really dont want to go there

that's true. although it was a bit of a myspace convention on saturday too... but I get the impression everyone under the age of 17 is either a homie or an emo now anyway so whatevs.
I'm old :(

I kinda know the guy that runs Zeal, and I hit him up once about trying to get more touring bands to play there, the kind of bands that would normally just do an R18 in Wellington. They aren't really interested, its main purpose as a council and church funded youth venue is to provide young people with somewhere to go, the music comes second.

Its ok if good bands play, but I prefer the vibe at OS9.

deal with os9 is that often there's a compulsory $10 cover charge that's out of the control of the organiser, and that the venue keeps all the door money usually

but other than that it's nice in there, quite big. Like a bigger version of valve

no longer the case - they have moved the door charge to $5. they do keep the door money, although you can work out a deal if you participate in some of the organisation [posters etc]. its pretty hassle free though

Awesome, that's great news...
Fuck drinking at bars, just get drunk outside, there's plenty of good alleyways round and about...cheaper than buying bar drinks and far more nifty/clandestine.
Zeal is run by a bunch of Christians and that never seems to work out for the best.

Problem with OS9 is that the kids who turn up still don't get to drink. There's still security and all of that shit. Not that it really matters at all, but meh.

There are TWO bars within less then 5 meters of os9 where you can drink between bands.

But at valve you can drink while the bands are on, noone wants to pay $6 to skull back a beer before the next bands started.
