best way to make patches?

Postby lost my sock » Mon Jan 15, 2007 11:07 pm

Is screen printing the best way to do it and if so how do I make a screen printer?

well im well behind the times but if you see this you can use a fine curtain mesh stretched over a wooden frame- makes for a cheap screen. and if you cant be assed cutting a stencil ados makes an awesome barrier- but it will be permanent.

So you want to get into screen printing patches? It's very easy, but will cost you heaps for ink, but that's your main expense. Ring CCG Industries Ltd and ask if you can go and visit their place and see around. They make screen frames, and sell inks & squeegees & other screenprint gear. But you can also make it all yourself, except for the ink, where you have to throw money at CCG.

Or if you want to try real printing, I can show you that system (= Letterpress.) Ink cost here is zero, but it is better suited for printing paper, cardboard, stickers, etc. but not patches.

Dont have to be limited to textile ink and plastisol for screen printing, but you've gotta watch the viscosity and clogging on the mesh, and especially cleaning can be harder and colour/washsafe issues. but yyeah, get the right stuff and its so much nicer :D
‹Rob Anybody› yeh that is an implied threat... an almost threat, god you need to research what a threat is you spinless waterballon man

i used an old picture frame and used a staple gun to attatch the screen on, i get fucking awesome prints and it doesnt have to cost you alot for ink, you can just use acrylic paint for non streachy fabrics and it works apsalutly fine

if you are using heatset its only about $14 for a litre.. which you should be able to get a thousand patches out of. 1c per patch for ink doesnt seem too bad.. or if you are using plastisol, same deal, except maybe 5c per patch
