Hell yeah, arduino! Do the sensors adjust some sort of temperature/humidity regulator? That would be sick, just sayin'.

I always have multiple projects on the go and limited funds. It's not the most productive, haha. At the moment my garden is suffering and I feel bad. I will have to leave the house this afternoon  and buy some much needed garden supplies. Better late than never. Your deck photos are inspiring me.......

Haha, UMMMMM I may take a rain check on that generous offer. You see, anything I've been given from Phaedrus has completely burned my face off and according to him you're much worse. I'm all for chilli, but I don't share the passion that you guys have with heat. Even the potato chips he ordered at Hashigo Zake made me contemplate suicide. I have no trouble with admitting that I'm a total soft cock when it comes to that shit.

I acquired 3 more shipping pellets (untreated pine) to turn into raised beds and bought 200L of mix today. I'll buy the same amount of mix again next week and finish planting. Then I'll post a photo...

Feeling much less guilty about neglecting the garden now.

So that's what that stuff is called? Dragon's bread? I learnt to stay clear of that this year too. It's possible Phaedrus enjoys watching me suffer. Is there anything edible at Hashies that doesn't involve your saliva turning to lava? I currently play it safe and stick to the beer. Image

Hahaha, hmmmm.

I don't think I know him 'irl'.

This weather sucks. 200L of mix still in my car. Legionnaires' disease come at me.

Speaking of:

Gardeners are keen to discover the source of an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease which could be transferred through potting mix.

The latest outbreak has claimed a life in Canterbury this month and figures show an increase in cases nationwide.

There were 14 cases of the disease around the country in October, double the number from the same time last year, while in Canterbury alone this month there have been 12 cases including the fatality.

Legionnaires' sufferer Dave Duthie told ONE News he wishes he had followed the warnings.

"I think I'd heard something about compost but thought really it was something that happened to other people," he said.

"There's a little warning label on the bag that says wear a mask, and this is one of those ones it's probably worth taking note of."

Looking good J.

Yeah, found out about the Chch Legionairre's outbreak about 2 days after shoveling 4 cubic metres of mix one day, and working with another cubic metre of bagged mix the next day. Then I planted my tomatoes and beans out in another few bags. Still waiting to see if my lungs fall out in the next couple of weeks...

Oh yeah- have scarlet runner beans, King of the Blues, and another old green bean variety on the go.

I have a question you may be able to answer, is it normal that my serrano should be germinating and sprouting so much slower than any of my other varieties?

That's a pretty nice set up you got going there, at what size did you first put them outside?

Habanero, ancho, pasilla baijo, jalapeno and serrano. My habaneros actually sprouted first which are no doubt the hottest of that bunch, closely followed by jalapeno. The pasilla baijo and ancho are just beginning to push their way up now.

Have you grown bhuts before? I'm not quite sure I could handle those.

Ta! Yeah we make our own compost and I dig that in every autumn. Also a lot of sheep poop and seaweed feed. So nice to chill on the deck overlooking our garden empire :)

We're moving to South Brighton this weekend, and the most stressy aspect is going to be attempting to move my beans, tomatoes, my trellis, my 6 ft tall ficus, and all my other house plants. Also got given a young passionfruit plant today. Marginal in Chch, but I'm a block from the beach, so if it has a bit of protection over winter, and is in a sunny north facing spot it will hopefully take off... Damn it's going to be good to have a proper vege garden again :)

cool, good to know!
I think I have a spot sorted out for it, but will overwinter it under cover, and watch where the frost falls.

Just tried some Trinidad Maruga Scorpion thought this was best place considering the chilli-centricness of this thread, will trade again, got a bit on my finger and rubbed under my eye when the sweat came on. we were debating whether dried or fresh would be hotter. Still undecided.

I won Hell's Pizza Roulette last week. If anything is hotter than that I don't want to know about it. Fuck that shit.

hotter when dried makes sense. Nah our butcher has em $3.50 for a regular scorpion and $4 for a moruga. Mates 9 year old was into it too. Didn't phase him too much, just said that's quite hot and jammed on black ops some more.
