Went there this morning. Pies and sausage rolls were mean but other baked goods were dry as hell and pretty average. Don't think they've discovered using bananas instead of eggs to keep the moisture up.
Lack of ambient sound made the place creepy as fuck.
Combine this with the huge happy Jesus mural and various Christian icons and I give it ummmmm Burger King out of Burger Fuel, good but I've had better.

I wouldn't mind happy Jesus eyeballing me for the sake of a sausage roll.

Theres a place on Ponsonby road, oppisite where Logos used to be called Casa Gelato - they have the exact same brand gelato as in those photos (has the same tags and everything)

All the fruit ones in the right hand fridge are vegan, and the ones in the left hand fridge, they have crazy good flavours like snickers, kinder suprise, bounty (!), forero rocher, tiramisu, black forest etc etc, all of those have dairy in them.

Soooooo goood!

Whys that? Do they claim to make it all themselves?? Maybe both places buy it from the same distributor? They look exactly the same right down to the sauce dizzled on top and matching flavour tags etc.

Hahah damn i want some now too. The Kinder Suprise one is the best

Does she?! Scandalous! Maybe she is like the lady I bought a ' handmade in New Zealand and with a price tag reflecting that' top from, only to get home and see Made In Vietnam tags on the interior! She was confused about how that got there when I returned it

No need for that kind of talk my friend, im am just saying what i have seen... :D

Maybe its just a coincidence that they both make the same product with the same flavours, present it in exactly the same way, and use the same, if not very similar professionally printed flavor tags.

Maybe its a franchise where they provide you with the recipes and tags and what not and you make it up yourself? Like Subway..haha.

Either way, the more of these places the better..

the kumara pies are meke
i rung her to order some stuff and she said that a flat of people in auckland give her 200 bucks a week and she pretty much gives them enough food to last all of them for the week.
sounds like a sweet deal.

bit late but I went to the Castle last weekend & it was truely amazing!
I think the food wasn't that super, but I definitley appreciated it. The icecream on the other hand was insane! So so good, anyone would dig it, it totally doesn't have a soy taste either (not that I would mind, but some folks aren't into that).

I talked to the lovely owner Sam about the icecream re whether it is a francise etc... She told me they started with a kit/ recipes from a francise type operation (same as casa gelato, as mentioned) and were making there own veganised versions with it but were misinformed & one ingredient they bought off the gelato company contained 5% lactose. So since discovering that (not long after they started) they've been making their own from scratch. I guess you could say they learnt from the other company, but are now 100% vegan and only still use the other company's flavour cards out of convenience.
Phew! They will have new cards soon with their own brand on them, to save the confusion.

Also they are going to be part of a vegan fest in Auckland...
7th December

Unlike previous similar events this will mainly be about food, y'know like eating it!

Choice.

You have to take the Mangatawhiri turn off now to get to it.
A bit like what they did to Pokeno.

i had a vege muffin from sola cafe in thames (the resident vege cafe in thames although they have dairy coffee also) and it was dry as fuck, took me half an hour to eat the cunt, they asked me what i thought the next day when i delivered their milk, I was too polite to say I thought it was fucken horrid. Dunno if they were trying to convert me or play a horrible prank on me with a batch that'd been in the oven too long, put me off for life.

Went today and they have kind of closed - the Mangatawhiri bypass has/is killing these guys. :( They aren't sure what they are going to do/keep doing. But call them or get to SAFE and buy their pies/ice creams etc and support them so they can keep making the good stuff we've come to love!
