Fry's Special Vegan Products

Postby Cavale » Mon Jul 09, 2007 2:39 pm

I just brought a whole heap of these to try from Throndon New World

We have:
Golden Crumbed "Chicken" Cutlets
Veg Schnitzel
Veg Mince

They also had hot dogs, couple of different kinds of sausages.

The schnitzel was really yum and the chicken cutlets were good but needed some more flavor.. i just covered them in chilli sauce.
I'll let you know how the mince turns out.

The products are great but at $8.99 each for a box of four they are real exspensive and theyre not quite worth the price. But maybe they can be found somewhere else cheaper.

The Mince is real average, I wouldn't buy that again.
Schnitzal is mean.
Burger patties are pretty good as well.

Expensive, but is pretty good for those who are starting off as Veges 8)

I tried their veg schnitzel tonight. Was pretty decent (but expensive like everyone else has already claimed). Was also the first time I've ever eaten imitation meat and it wasn't as weird as I anticipated it to be.

Depends what you're using the mince for. By itself it's not that good so you wouldn't make a mince pie out of it but in lasagna a tomato based pasta/spaghetti meal with a lot of flavours for it to absorb it can be really good.

i was real keen to try (and to like) these, i tried the cutlets and the schnitzel, and to be honest they were super dry and flavourless, and i only enjoyed them when they were mixed with three different sauces. Which is kinda crappy, infact with the exception of the mock gluten meat in the blue cans this is the driest blandest fake meat ive tried i reckon. i think the breadcrumbs were too thick and underseasoned, or the whole thing underseasoned, but for such a high price it just tasted like pretty expensive cardboard. atleast the gluten meat in the cans is a) cheap and b) pretty cookable and versitile (and flavour Able). But for welly people i still reckon the best stuffs at davis trading petone: chicken nuggets (one of the brands is real flavoury), crispy duck slices (really really awesome), and the chicken nibbles, but generally all the frozen meats there are pretty darn good in comparison (atleast in my opinion, though i havent actually really tried that many of them)

its crumbed, doesnt make it very versatile for other cooking options, apart from the deep fryer. its probably obviously a personal thing. i could be keen without the breadcrumbs, but they were 'very' thick.
