Any queerpunk scene in NZ?

Postby deathrockboy » Wed Jan 16, 2008 12:57 am

Just wondering... are there actually any queer punks in this country?

There was a few shy hands raised when Limp Wrist asked, though in terms of the hamilton show I think they was all females.

But there has to be. Stands to reason. Punk rock is where all the 'misfits' and 'losers' end up. Face it: We are just failed jocks.

i know of a couple, but i think most gays and bi's tend to move on from punk eventually, cos its definately not the haven for misfits and outcasts its meant to be, it seems to me that theres just as much intolerence of gays/bi's/people who dress funny in the wder punk scne as anywhere else.

in anycase theres no unified queer punk scene in NZ, not by a long shot, in my opinion youd have more luck hanging out with goths and emos.

Failed jocks?
Nah... not even failed.
Maybe you though Reuben..

And Goths and Emos? Please....
I was more interested in politics and interesting stuff.
If i wanted a fashion show and bitch club then the gay scene would do.

well then, if youre interested in politix go be an anarcho-fascist, im sure theyd love to have a token wrong 'un, it would help if youre non white and not from upper middle class origins also.\

youre certainly bitchy enough to fit right in.

i like how youre interested in interesting stuff, real deep man.

I guess the answer to 'is there a queerpunk scene' is no and the answer to 'any queer punks in this country' is yes

If I was in a band it might not be 'queer' if I was the only queer in it

Meh, I'd be in on a queer-punk scene if I was queer, as it is it aint my job :D

If someone starts a decent homo band I'll be there to listen though ;)

Listening to Pansy Division hasn't made me gay. Listening to NOFX probably would. There's a lot of NOFX fans in NZ so the queerpunk scene is obviously big.

Troubs is there's queer punks but not enough in any one location to start a "scene" as such. Maybe there'll be enough at the circle jerk next punkfest to organise a "scene" for the duration of the fest.

NZ's got a pretty small population... I'm not sure there's a unified queer scene of any kind, let alone queer punk scene. Anyway, is there ever anything such as a 'unified' queer scene?

I think queer boys need to rep more to be honest.

not to be confused with camp ones however...

its nothing to be ashamed of really...

hahah...

it seems my life is full of awesome lesbians who are totally comfortable and open about their sexuality and I find myself asking frequently ... where are the boys at? (not saying that its any easier for girls, I'm just not at a privileged enough position to talk about it from your perspective so I wont!)

I mean there's plenty of guys who fit 'that' stereotype around but really its not what anyone in the 'alternative' crowd wants is it...?

I feel that if people are still throwing around slander... even jokingly in a scene thats probably most open and accepting to all kinds of folk well then that really not good for anyones confidence to express themselves in all things. Such social taboos as being a man and expressing any kind of emotion is really the stem of the problem. If you like the lady's your still not really expected to talk about it more than 'oh I'm going to bone her'. how in that context can you be expected to talk honestly about how you feel about members of the same sex....

anyway the point is if there were more bands in front of people on a stage prepared to shout out the way they feel about members of the same sex it would make it so much easier for people watching to feel accepted and comfortable in that environment and put their arm around the cute guy next to them with out having to shrug it off after the gig as casual friend affection.

In any case If anyones keen to start a queer core band in wellington with me I would be happy to front it... heh... yes ?? hrm

also I hear the scene in Hamilton is piping hot... they just don't know it yet ... :D

end rant. blah blah blah

i'm queer as fuck friendly and I agree but maybe beefing up wud help, machismo guys are much more open ta hitting other guys in open circumstances but then the redskins and gg got the same shit in a punk sense and you just gotta do it, cause theres bound to be an audience and who gives a fuck if the bands good right, punk rock an all that.

wotya mean? ya mean punk guys, maybe punk guys are confused which even I find odd, i mean, 'aren't you attracted to them?' but then social norms must be very strong which is why punx tryta break em for all and let people grow at their own pace and help them find themselves, well they should hopefully if not lost in drugs and alcohol but maybe that shit helps too at times.

I've known a few guys like that and many of u's girls and boys hang tagetha ta explore, which is safety in numbers innit just as punx ain't a gang but haveta be sometimes.

punk is at a loss for an audience sometimes but it knows thats not the end, its only the start.

I mean the pressures so strong i've thought i might be queer but i know i'm not, it just ain't there, i am a free spirit to a point but not that free haha.

viva queer, i'd play but i ain't queer and i might be crap, who knows until you find out.

good post berns mut, i mean you hang out with fruits haha low hum etc, are they announcing their sexuality??? hmmm, interested.
