well he mentioned something about a Dan and then Blair added it was Fatal Error Dan, who is a good mate of mine and not a homophobe.

There are a million Dans in the Wellington punk community, I'd be interested to know which one is supposedly a phobe.

There are plenty of gay people in the anarcho community in Welly too.

Someone thought I had a kid yesterday when i was in New world with my baby cousin. Then when I explained to said person that I was just looking after it the person seemed even more shocked that someone would let me look after their child.
I returned it fine, and in much the same condition as I borrowed it.

Fatal error dan is one of my bestest friends in the world, and one of my soul mates, and I'd defend him to the death, and I'm queer, and he knows that. He could have a loud mouth, and he also had issues from his past.

You too, roadkillthrill (if you are who I'm thinking you are  ) have also been known to have a big mouth and piss people off!

In my experience there wasn't alot of queer solidarity in Welly,( but that might just be cos I never scored) but around that time there was also some damn conservative attitudes towards sex and diy porn, and other "alternative" (hehe) practices in the scene, some of which resulted in people being excluded, shunned and ultimately leaving town vowing never to have anything to do with the Welly scene again.
It definitely left me with a bad taste in my mouth, cos I've met more open attitudes from rural rednecks than some I encountered then, from my community and supposedly my friends.

I agree, nz is a pretty conservative place sexually, and it carries through into the punk/anarchist scene

I agree that NZ is a very conservative place when it comes to sexuality. Goddamned uptight is how I'd put it!

Dan is a clown, a great clown, makes me laugh everytime i see him.

He was actually back in the country for a few days. I missed seeing him because I don't live near any big centres anymore.

Personally I find a lot of attitudes towards anyone with bi tendencies to be pretty offensive. It's like some of them expect you to be operating some kind of quota system.

I have way more experience with women, and for a while pretty much thought of myself as het. But that ten percent of me just kept nagging along in the background. So eventually I had to accept it. It's something that crops up from time to time and has yet to be fully explored, but I don't feel obliged to do so to prove any kind of point, to myself or anyone else.

It's something that will evolve naturally or fade over time I suppose.

It is a shame that you have found Wellington to be conservative and not all that gay-friendly. It is a shame because living here I like to think my fellow citizens would be more tolerant.

OK ..i accept that..and we know what went down in the past..but that left a really bad taste in my mouth [mebbe i shouldnt swallow the stuff]..and id neva had to put up with that kind of shit within similar scenes whether it had been edinburgh or berlin..i was openly intimidated by that lil fuck and threatened on one occasion..DBF..yer a woman..so that put u in another league..and for what ever i did in the past..i neva attacked anyone on the basis of gender ,sexuality etc..so it doesnt compare..whoeva i pissed off was more likely to do dogmatic anarcho kiddie politics..get my [veggie] beef ?..and to keep rubbin the salt//he went as far as making rotten dyke comments in a takeaway in front of Voodoo Chile [aka katarina]..and was lucky he didnt get a kebab skewer in the face..

Postby roadkillthrill » Mon Aug 28, 2006 1:29 am

ok..i realise ive contradicted myself in that last thread..anyway..i dont give a fuck a bout Dan..shit happened..i just used him as an example of what was the underlying prejudice in that scene..i didnt do the gay scene either..plus being sole migrant meant i was looking fer some kind of acceptance in an environment that was supposed to protect and nurture..bahhumbug..i should be so lucky..
Mutante..im not attacking u..but i find yer last comment a bit disjointed..my Mum once told me she had lesbian fantasises but neva acted on them..so becos uve thought about queer sex this makes u Bi..?this didnt make my Mum a dyke..get my drift..

Not unusual since we don't know each other very well. Where I stand on 'gay people or gender in the 'scene''? I don't. I think it is the same as where you stand on gay rights in say 'life in general.' For me it is a case by case basis, like it is with straight people. As I meet them i make that decission. Some people are lovely and some people are pushy and unpleasent.

here here i'll second that for sure. he's a good cunt, lived with him for ages and sure he can say some dumb offensive shit, but can't we all? calling him homophobic, or insinuating it, is just plain wrong sorry. don't judge people by something one person said or did drunk... and i i won't judge all anarch-fem dykes by the arrogant uninformed personally hurtful nasty insults i've heard them dish out to that same lovely dan when they thought he wasn't in hearing range...

not paying ya out roadkillthrill just had to defend a good mate

thanks for the baby offer luv. as long as you raise them...

yep, dan can be as offensive as hell, and he has no qualms about using what he knows will make people bite!

My sister saw him in Rotaryrua at the mountainbike worlds on Saturday. Damn I'd like to catch up with him!

and people can be gay or bi or straight and never act on it. you just know. people's own feelings on their own sexuality should'nt be challenged.
I think I've experienced heaps of negative attitudes about being bi, from straights and gays. Both parties seem to think bis are floozies, and are out to get everyone. I'd like to personally refute that, with the number of times I have scored in the last two years!

I'd agree with what Dustbinflowers said above in that you just know. Whether I act on it or not is down to a whole host of different internal struggles. For one, despite my ribald sense of humour I'm actually quite iffy about who I let into my personal space no matter what lives in their pants, so my bodily contact issues cloud things even further.

OooooK..so far Dan [he is now a metaphor] is now exemplary..a mate and can say whateva he likes as long as its when hes pissed...and when he repeats the behaviour..there is nothing homophobic about it..its just ammo fer when he needs it...DUH?
and now ive creamed some basic admissions from this..i am still no more wiser..i.e..no solidarity here..jus like the punk scene..which espouses values but doesnt stand tru..hence the DAN METAPHOR..how people act in private and how they display hypocritical public face..
..this is also a 'generational matter'..i was dealing with a bunch of juvenile alcoholics..where there is no coherencey..and no excuses,,awww ..we were pissed...!

the idea that the punk scene is "united" in any way shape or form is a total fantasy. or inclusive. it's a lovely thought and in some respects/sometimes it is, but i think, on the whole, it's not.

sorry you learnt that the hard way.

yes i never found the punk scene to be that inclusive to be honest.

I can see what you mean by using the Dan example, roadkill, that does sum up alot of what its like, unfortunately.

These days I can guarantee you that if Dan or anyone talked any kind of homophobic shit in my presence i'd be on their back about it. I did say he was my mate and he does say alot of shouty bullshit things that have pissed me off. And I've said so and we've even managed to discuss it without too much shouting. Although the shouting was fun. I like shouting.
Those issues didn't concern any homophobia on Dan's part though
But that's how mates work things out... i didn't think Dan put on a public face either.

It sucks that you had a bad time in the punk scene... I've had some bad times too. I thought there would be solidarity when it came to women in the scene and there fuckin isn't. Its one of the worst gossipy bitchy backstabbing communities ever and there is no sisterhood or mutual support. Fuckin Auckland was horrible, all the dorises trying to mack on whoever you were with, fucking people behind your back and just being really dishonest about it. When i went to welly and found more honest types down there it was a breath of fresh air. I understand some of the same thing went on, but luckily i've managed to stay away from it.

what a fuckn rant... :|

its all greek to me...

Postby roadkillthrill » Tue Aug 29, 2006 8:46 am

Friends ,countryfolk,homos..now i feel stink..picking on me in those days was at a time when i was pretty delicate..hence why i probs felt so persecuted..and i should hope now we're all a bit greyer and wiser..and admittance of persuasions was just a way of trying to more open..on the street generally..and even up until recently..cos i was out..meant i got singled out fer being a deviant..when really i was quite conservative and practically celibate..but no..i was toilet hanging sauna sleazing fag..watch what happens when all the het lads are bragging about conquests with wimmin..as soon as i tried to add my 5 cents worth..i was shot down in flames..hence why i have to live in a queer friendly zone now..damn..the ghetto again..but thanks to all here fer throwing water on my still burnin anger..i need it..
