"who's the guy?"

Postby cirE » Thu Feb 09, 2006 7:07 pm

whenever my mom's watching something on tv that's got a gay/lesbian couple she always wants to know who the "guy" and the "girl" is...

...do homosexual couples always have distinct roles in the relationship like this?

discuss

Come on man. Don't she know they operate by alternating roles on days. Mon/Wed/Fri & Tues/Thurs/Sat and Sunday is a coin toss

I don't think it's quite as clear cut as that. It's not like one person is ALWAYS doing the stereotypical "male" things, and one doing the stereotypical "female things".

I think it's bizarre that society even expects heterosexual couples to be as clearly cut as that, half the "male" attributes that society expects could be just as prominent the average female, if society wasn't so weird.

AND i cant fix cars. or computers. or bikes.
and i cook and sew and fold her washing.
yes. if you want to put it like that, I'm the girl.

BUT. i don't think gender roles are necessarily all that clear cut. it's not like she's always "the guy".

And don't call me emo.

No.
I'm not emo. I don't listen to emo.

I am emotional. As in, I feel emotions. I believe feeling emotions is more "human" than "emo".

because his mother may be asuming that eric is homosexual. which is worrying because it shows a void in eric and his mothers relationship, in which she asumes things about her son, which shows me (a person with no mental medical training) that eric and his mother need to just sit down and have a long talk to each other. about anything really. i just think they need to talk so they can re-aquaint themselves again. this could be something to do with eric becoming a vampire and living his life on a message board.

then again, i could just be talking shit. idiot.

thanx.retard. I was asking to make sure you weren't having gay hate. no need for abuse when you make open statements and people enquire, this is an open board after all.

I don't feel like yr "jumping on my post". But I still think society as a whole stereotype gender roles too much. The amount of times I've been asked if I'm the "butch or the bitch" is annoying. It probly is worse becuase I live in an extremely small town, but I still think society has a lot to work on with gender roles etc.

And I'm not going to make statements about what "men expect", because if men show expectations that I personally have problems with, I generally realise it is a result of the way society operates.
Or something.
