Re: Dexter - 8x

I think the good thing about these last couple of seasons is they don't "re-boot" like the first few seasons did. Like, if you watch Season 1, you could skip to Season 6 or so and not have missed a thing. Your only question would be, "Oh, he has a kid now?" But with Deb knowing a...

Re: What have you recently watched?

Yeah, Seven Psychopaths is totally self-indulgent - all metaphoric about the different crraazzzy pressures on a script. But it does disappear up its own arse a bit. But yeah, has some cool bits...it's not terrible or anything, just not In Bruges good. Or even The Guard good (which was by McDonagh's ...

Re: What have you recently watched?

Well, it's a pretty crappy movie. But I thought he was appropriately slimy.

Whereas something like Possession is, well, I don't even know if it's traditional 'acting'. More like some kind of bizarro performance art.

Sinister Like everyone has said, great then not great. Mostly because they made the spooky kids super-dorky. Don't do that, movies. Lords of Salem NOTHING HAPPENS. The plot is simple and it just plays out. Nice visuals, but fucking terrible film. Rurouni Kenshin Rollicking period Japanese action fl...

Crispin Glover in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter:

How can you not like that dude? (Unless you're Jason Voorhees, of course)

Also, Sam Neill as the Antichrist in Omen III was awesome.

Re: What have you recently watched?

The Evil Dead remake was...good. Some bad moves in the script (I HATE horror movies that think they need to open with a horror scene to remind us we're in a horror movie even if it means one with unrelated characters. It just fucks up the pacing and makes the build up that follows seem really slow) ...

Loved it, but fucking hell, what was Tarantino thinking with his fuck-awful attempt at an Aussie accent. And to make it worse, he did it standing next to John Jarrett ( Wolf Creek ), who is an ACTUAL Aussie. Lots of nerdy cameos - Zoe Bell, Tom Savini, etc. but my favourite was Franco Nero, the orig...

Yeah, the shotgun in the church, pointing it at the Jesus statue, "Get down here or the kid gets it!"

Also, his speech with the recorded crowd noise was awesome/sad.

Lucy and I have this real problem of starting to watch a movie (without watching much of the trailer, because those fucking things actually show you the ENTIRE movie these days) and then BAM turns out to be a cancer movie. So fucking annoying. Hahahaha! That's awesome. "Hey, let's watch this s...

Smoked through all of Breaking Bad in a matter of weeks. Great show that gets better as it goes along because, unlike a lot of shows that have 'series', it is all one story and all the set-up steadily pays off beautifully. Re: Favourite Films of 2012?

I definitely wouldn't take "the people" over those people who are really into movies. I find I generally agree with critics, which isn't surprising. Not always. So, most people thought Skyfall was great, you didn't. Ah, well. There you go. Just think of the music charts for an equivalent. ...

Re: Favourite Films of 2012?

Yeah, I don't think Skyfall or 21 Jump Street are surprising picks - both were pretty popular with the critics. In fact, I think Skyfall has some crazy-high 90+% rating on RottenTomatoes. But to each their own. For example, I thought Moonrise Kingdom was just 'okay'. It was pleasant, but nothing spe...

Re: Holy Motors

I've never seen Tokyo! is it any good? Personally, I don't have a lot of time for things that "can't be explained". To me, if you're an artist, you've either got something to say or you haven't. If you haven't, then making entertainment is fine. But just throwing gibberish at the screen to...

Re: Favourite Films of 2012?

It was coz the US was the last chance, they often fail in other parts of the world but the shit only hits the fan if they all fail. This. Plus, Japan had a 100% clearance rate...until now. Which I took to mean "J-horror used to be awesome but has gone a bit shit now..." Haha! The idea (as...

Re: Holy Motors

**** SPOILERS **** It seemed to me to be 'a life in movies'. It felt autobiographical - like we were watching key aspects of Leos Carax's life/philosophy, as expressed through the language of film. For example, the sequence in the cemetery is perhaps the international community seeing him and his wo...
