Re: Tobacco excise tax increased by Government
those are some awesome numbers theyve come up with to justify this. kind of interesting that the costs to the health system are now $1.9 billion when the ministry of healths own website puts it at 200-250 million (in 1992 dollars for some reason) and that was in 2005. so somehow the costs of smoking...

my work tried something like this, i think its pretty standard for douchebag management staff to try to pull this initially in the hope that everyone just goes with it, but if anyone starts complaining they will backpedal, because they know its illegal.

Re: Labour's Bill target loan sharks
Wasn't the idea of allowing this type of lending that it would stop gangs loan sharking and would allow for oversight initially? Did they just forget about it in the final draft or some shit? im willing to bet that gangs care a hell of a lot more about their communities than these vultures, and pro...

Re: Unfit parents offered $5000 to be sterilized
Most people take more care in breeding their pedigree pets or their agapanthas than they do in breeding the next generation of kids... true, but pedigree pets are usually retarded and half blind from inbreeding. but they look pretty. i suspect a human eugenics movement would have broadly the same r...

yeah probably, but labour are no better on civil liberties.
i can absolutely see them spending way more time on making sure that they can still "fight terrorism" using any means they like, than on making sure the government doesnt get all tyrannical.

Yeah, there's been talk of it having to be entrenched in a new constitution etc. if we do become a republic. I think thats part of the reason they want to put a time limit on treaty claims as well. Aidan this is one of the problems of the whole republic thing. whos going to write what would become ...
