Re: Anti SJW thread and/or alt right neo nazis

He made a part of his case that in evidence gathering he should be allowed to return to the google campus and women should have to debate him.
Yeah bro, girls love being legally required to talk to you. That ain't creepy at all.

Re: Anti SJW thread and/or alt right neo nazis

I love hearing this "anti-intellectualism on university campuses" shit, as if it's actually happening. The only evidence always seems to be some implicitly untrustworthy realintellectualnewsthattotallyisntaninfowarsfront dot website or hearsay from some bizarre tumblr. I've yet to see anyt...

Re: Star Wars 8

I like that slash film article a lot. It puts into words a lot of the swirling ideas I had after seeing it today. I enjoyed The Last Jedi but was underwhelmed. I suspect it's going to grow on me with time though in a way that Force Awakens probably won't. I'm definitely curious to see where the next...

Re: Most useful/employable programming language?

I've never used it. I assume it's just C with some OO shit bolted on in a slightly less overloaded manner than C++? I haven't found a programming language I actually like as yet, I'm most familiar with C/C++ and Python but christ if I don't hate them all in their own ways. I wouldn't mind learning G...

Re: Most useful/employable programming language?

So I wound up going back to uni in 2012 and doing mechatronic engineering and am now a robotics engineer. I spend most of my days doing weird programming stuff in c++/python. I guess everything worked out!

Corded drills any good? I don't need to be away from a plug and there seems to be a pretty massive price difference. Nothing profesh, mostly just wood-screws and the like.

Re: Butthole Surfer Wins “Yard of the Month” Award in Austin

Shit, I'm getting some punkas FOMO. Since leaving NZ the prospect of ever being able to afford a house has receded further and further from view. Living in Sydney pretty much dooms that idea.
And I pretty much never go to gigs cause I'm lazy as shit.

A point someone else made that has really stuck with me regarding anti-vax idiots: They'd rather their child died of a preventable disease than be autistic/disabled/whatever. Says a lot frankly.

Extremely face plan. I have a work mate who goes on about political correctness this, PC that. It grinds my gears. I think it was Bill Bailey who said "when I was a boy we called political correctness 'being polite'".
Punch up, stupids.

The mute button is your friend.

My trivial irritation for today is the inability of CAD software to behave consistently. Middle button should ALWAYS be rotate. COME ON

Re: The Trivial Irritations Thread

Tumblr's a great place for funny shit and some mid-tier social commentary but don't take it too seriously. Pretty often it's 14 year olds getting way too deep into social justice without the ability to think logically or critically. Think of it like 14 year old punks who think Rancid invented ska or...

Re: The Trivial Irritations Thread

This whole "racist irritations" thread thing is totally anecdotal anyway. I've certainly experienced all this with Asian/Chinese persons but I've definitely experienced it also with Yanks, Brits and fuckin' Aussies as well. It's a selective bias. You notice it more with people who are less...

Yeah, this thing has improved my soldering ten fold easily. You can do a passable job on most stuff with a shitty iron but with a good one you can do a good job on complicated parts as well.

We've got one of these Hakko soldering stations at work and it's the best shit - http://au.element14.com/hakko/fx-888d/s ... dp/2280753
A bit expensive but I've repeatedly soldered tiny tiny 1mm or less wires without drama. I've used it for surface mount parts even.

I haven't got shit all tools but I work with a bunch of tradies and fitters with some seriously nice kit. A couple have those spanners with the ratcheting bit on one end and a regular spanner on the other. Fuck it gives me tool envy. But being a mostly software engineer I only need tools to fit sens...
