Re: Star Wars VIII

This feels like the real make-or-break one, doesn't it? The Force Awakens was solid, but relied too much on repeating previous movies. If Episode VIII is fresh and cool, I think Force will look like a necessary course correction in retrospect and will get more love. Of course, if Episode VIII sucks,...

Re: So, 'Ello' then?

It kinda feels like it has died already.

Without some kind of feature for differentiation (aside from "our interface is really ugly!") it seems already everyone has given up on it. That must be a record.

Looks like the car only lasts the first ten seconds of the movie, anyway. Just like the second flick, I guess.

Was a bit annoyed that the NZ DVD release of Black Mirror excluded the one with the futuristic Talent Show - apparently there was a music rights dispute, so that episode had to left off.

And they wonder why people download stuff...

Lots at NZIFF I want to see, no doubt none of them will play Palmy and I can't be fucked driving back and forth to Wellington this year. But yeah.

Re: J's amazing tits, dragons and bloodshed extravaganza thr

Actor changes don't bother me. The Mountain is barely in it, so who cares? As for Daario, the last one was a ridiculous Fabio-looking dude who couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. Orphan Black fella is way better. I like the way the Clegane brothers have completely different accents, though. The...

Still digging this programme - it is kinda funny how they resolutely refuse to have any Starks meet back up together. Even when they get close, something still cock-blocks them.

bronson. Started strong, faltered in the middle, ended in whimper. Yeah, totally. It pretty much said all it was going to say in the first 30 minutes. Looked great, though, and Hardy was incredible. Re: 2013 tv season

True Detective is a risky one, isn't it? So far, it's all set-up. If there's a good pay-off, it's going to be fantastic - but if there isn't, it's been a load of shite.

Still, we get Alexandra Daddario, so it ain't all bad news any way you cut it.

Re: When did you grow up

This is a weird thread. You change over time, otherwise it's boring and you're not learning. Is that the same thing as growing up? If so, it happens progressively, in my experience. You don't go to bed going, "Yay! Cartoons!" and wake up going, "Oh, my back hurts. Are the mortgage pay...

Re: Outdoor fest in Auckland

I think the key is starting modestly - there have been numerous genre 'fests' that have failed in this country over the years, going back to Warped Tour. The ones that have worked have been ones that started small - like the example above - and then using the word of the mouth of the first year's at...

Re: **Punkas' Top 100 Books**

The only China Mieville I've read was King Rat , which was staggeringly shit. It's a (pretentious) retelling of the Pied Piper of Hamlin, but in this case his evil flute temptations are defeated by - I kid you not - the power of drum 'n' bass. That kinda made me write off the guy. What of his stuff ...

FC - avoid Season Two like the plague, it really was frickin' terrible. You could probably skip Season Three, as well. They're just in a different safe haven with a few new people on board and a couple of the old ones are gone. Otherwise, no lasting changes. This season is the first one with actual ...
